Parachute Literary Arts invites you to come experience Walt Whitman’s bicentennial in one of his favorite places—Coney Island! Join us on the boardwalk and West 21st Street in Coney Island for a day-long festival of poetry, music, free workshops, and site-specific walks. Featuring readings by: Tracie Morris, Patricia Spears Jones, Cliff Fyman, Stephanie Gray, Barbara Henry, Urayoán Noel, and poets from the Worker Writers School. Coney Island’s native daughter Carol Lipnik — a singer/ songwriter/ performance artist —will read Walt Whitman’s letters aloud! Join us after the readings on the roof of Kitchen 21 where Bushwick Book club presents new original music, performance, art and snacks from Brooklyn songwriters, artists and creatives in response to “Leaves of Grass.”
