A celebratory reading by the winners of Brooklyn Poets’ Whitman Bicentennial Poetry Contest responding to the bard’s indelible question from “Crossing Brooklyn Ferry”: “What is it, then, between us?” Three winners from three different age brackets (13–17, 18–22, 23+) will be joined by the three judges—Mark Doty, Rowan Ricardo Phillips and Brooklyn Poet Laureate Tina Chang—who will introduce the winners and read from their own work and Whitman’s. Free and open to the public. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served, and a reception will follow.
