Brooklyn Book Festival
Upcoming Event
Join us for our 2026 Brooklyn Book Festival event:
Under Your Boot Soles:
Catching Up with Walt Whitman
September 24, 5pm at WWI’s Tane Library
91 South Street, NYC
“I am with you,” Walt Whitman pledged in “Crossing Brooklyn Ferry”. For this year’s Brooklyn Book Festival, performer Todd Blakesley sees to it that Brooklyn’s Literary Grandfather is true to his words! Meet Whitman’s modern-day incarnation, who will recite favorite poems and discuss the connections between his turbulent times and our own.
Since 2022, the Walt Whitman Initiative has been delighted to offer a lively variety of Brooklyn Book Festival Bookend Events. Our first event in 2022 celebrated the grand opening of our open-access Tane Library; since then, we’ve offered literary walking tours and hosted the grand premier of Kevin Brofsky’s “Two Brothers,” a one-man play about the actor Edwin Booth.
We’re proud to partner with BBF and look forward to seeing you at our next event!
