This group exhibition is inspired by Walt Whitman’s instrumental role in the physical production of his many editions of Leaves of Grass, which—as scholar Edward Folsom has stated—the poet not only wrote, but made, “over and over again, each time producing a different material object that spoke to its readers in different ways”

The show combines a selection of examples from Philadelphia-based writers who print their own books with an eclectic, international selection of contemporary titles shaped by their authors’ control of typesetting, design, print medium, paper choice, binding, and distribution. Details about accompanying public programs to be announced.
