Please join us as we celebrate the street co-naming of Walt Whitman Way! It will be a day filled celebrating Walt, his writing, and his connection to Brooklyn. There will be activities, speakers, readings and much more.

The celebration will be held on Dekalb Ave between Hall St and Ryerson St., just outside the Pratt Institute gates.

2:00pm – 3:00 Walt Whitman Ramble (meet at High Street, Brooklyn Bridge Street A/C stop)
3:00-3:15 Matt Miller (emcee) makes introductions. Soprano Nicole Mitchell sings “If I Can Help Somebody” by Alma Bazel Androzzo (1912-2001)
3:15-3:30 NY City Council Majority Leader Laurie Cumbo’s speech
3:30-3:45 “Walt Whitman Way” sign unveiling. Young Jin Oh performs his setting of Whitman’s “I Hear America Singing”
3:45-4:00 Commemorative speeches: BPL’s Nick Higgins; Society of Old Brooklynites George Broadhead; Society for Clinton Hill Brent Porter. Performance by Michael Rogers and Patrick Davis of Compagnia d’ Colombari, introduced by Director Karin Coonrod
